Honorable mentions, the policies that didn't make the cut:
6. Weld Shut the revolving door
Ban government employees from working or lobbying in any sector related to their previous government positions and areas they regulated after they leave office.
7. Stop Throwing Whistleblowers in Jail
Australia’s current whistleblower laws have not protected a single person. Whistleblowers still face jail time while the criminals they expose walk free. We need real protection for people who risk everything to tell us the truth about what our government is doing behind closed doors.
8. Ban Political Lies in Advertising
There's currently no legal requirement for political advertising to be factual - politicians can literally lie through their teeth in their campaign ads with zero consequences. While every other industry has truth-in-advertising laws, politicians get a free pass to mislead voters with complete bullshit. Time to ban lying in political advertising and hold politicians to the same standards as everyone else.
9. End the Government Cover-Up
Freedom of Information laws let citizens access government information, but Albanese's government has rejected more FOI requests than Morrison's. Lets Strengthen FOI laws so we can actually find out what they're hiding.
10. Expose Politicians' Hidden Fortunes and stock trades
Politicians can currently trade stocks while making decisions affecting those companies. They hide assets in trusts we can't see, senators don't need to disclose assets at all, and there are zero penalties for breaking disclosure rules. We need complete asset disclosure for all politicians, stock trading limits, and real penalties like fines and jail time for hiding financial conflicts of interest.
11. Expose Every Secret Meeting
We should know who our representatives meet with: force the publication of all ministerial meetings inside and outside of Parliament House; require complete diary transparency and enforce strict penalties for misconduct.
