OPEN: Punters Lobbyist

Position: Lobbyist

Salary: $75,000 (funded by punter donations)
Location: Parliament House, Canberra (with lobbying pass)
Reports to: The Punters (500,000+ strong community)

Primary Mission:

  • Lobby politicians on behalf of everyday Australians ("punters") rather than corporate interests
  • Seek to influence Australian government decision-making on legislation changes, policy development, and funding allocations through meetings with MPs and attending parliamentary events
  • Hold politicians accountable to their promises and voting records
  • Expose corporate welfare and tax avoidance schemes

Daily Activities:

  • Meet with federal MPs, senators, and government officials
  • Attend regional industry events and petition federal MPs before parliamentary votes
  • Research policy issues affecting ordinary Australians
  • Prepare reports and briefings for the punter community, be comfortable presenting these on the podcast and youtube channels
  • Explain implications of upcoming legislative amendments to clients (in this case, the punters)

Previous Experience Required

  • Lobbying experience with Australian Government representatives for corporate interests - we are looking for a reformed lobbyist
  • Political connections and established relationships with MPs, senators, and government officials
  • Experience as a political staffer, former politician, or parliamentary advisor
  • Background in fossil fuel, gambling, tobacco, or other corporate lobbying (we want someone who knows how the system really works)

Professional Requirements

  • Must be registered on the Australian Government Register of Lobbyists and provide statutory declaration
  • Detailed knowledge of Australian political system, parliament, key players in government departments, and lawmaking process
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and expertise in diplomacy, networking, and persuasion

Advocacy Focus Areas

  • Corporate tax avoidance (Netflix, gas companies, etc.)
  • Housing affordability and cost of living
  • Government transparency and accountability
  • Fair taxation and resource royalties
  • Science and research funding (like CSIRO)

Financial Package:

  • $75,000 annual salary (funded by punter donations)
